The press goes virtual
It is information that attracts people to the World Wide Web. In fact, information is the Internet. Actually, television, radio, telephones, post, books, newspapers and magazines have no technological advantage that was not implemented on the Internet this way or another, or it will be implemented in the near future, like in case of interactive television. Moreover, it would be safe to say that the Internet emerged as a result of convergence between ordinary mass media sources and other means of supplying and distributing information.

The role of the mass media on the Internet is quite significant. For example, there are two information servers, RBC and Gazeta.ru, among the ten most frequently visited resources on the Russian Internet. According to data from Rambler, all web sites classified as the mass media or periodicals accumulate a total of 14 to 15 percent of the daily audience on the Russian Internet.

Business people need to learn about the latest news earlier than this information is published in tomorrow's newspapers or reported on television several hours later. The RBC project (www.rbc.ru) was the first to use the advantages of this situation and it provided free access to its news line, which was earlier available only by fee-based subscription. The company's web site receives the largest number of visitors on the Russian Internet, leaving behind even the humor resource Anekdot.ru
