Krasnodar regional governor Alexander Tkachyov, 42, has become the winner of the annual national award the Person of the Year 2002 in the Regional Leader nomination. And he deserves it: he is a man of action, an energetic, decisive leader, and an experienced production manager. Despite extremely unfavorable circumstances, the region faced in 2002, its economy has been growing steadily. The harvest was the highest over the past 12 years (8.5 million tons of grain). Over two years, the regional budget doubled. Salaries of teachers, doctors and other budget employees doubled due to resources of the regional budget. Regarding investment attractiveness, the region is among leaders in Russia.

Governor Tkachyov is characterized by a firm independent position on major problems in the social and economic development of the region and Russia as a whole. His activities skillfully combine will, democratism, and the ability to mobilize resources of the region for completing set tasks.
