Best Chief Information Officers awarded in Russia

A new layer of managers, Chief Information Officers (CIO), emerged in Russia over the past two years. They occupied seats on boards of directors because the efficiency of a company became directly dependent on the speed of information exchange. Chief Information Officers are not responsible for the state of computer networks (which is the task of chiefs of computer departments) but manage the development of the communications environment allowing for making optimal management decisions at any time.

CIOs set up their own magazine and from now on an annual national award IT-Leader. The first awarding ceremony "For a significant contribution to the development of information technologies in Russia" was held in the exhibition center Novy Manezh in Moscow. This award was founded by the company CROC, RosBusinessConsulting, the business daily magazine Kompaniya and the Intelligent Enterprise magazine. They decided to grant awards to companies and Chief Information Officers that had the most significant impact on the distribution of up-to-date technologies in this sector.

The winners of the award were chosen by an expert council in 11 nominations for various management sectors and bodies: from ministries, banks and transport companies to telecommunications companies and cultural institutions. The largest number of awards was granted to state governing bodies. Among the winners were the Russian Education Ministry and the Tax Ministry, the State Statistics Committee and the Customs Committee, the Russian Central Election Commission and the government of the Stavropol region. These organizations implemented programs of such a large scale and importance that the expert council could not decide what organization to prefer and the winners had to share awards. The number of winners in the corporate sector was more modest, one winner in each nomination.
