Business stars shine at awards

The first deputy chairwoman of the Central Bank of Russia, Tatyana Paramonova, has been awarded the Grand Prix Person of the Year 2002 award by RosBusinessConsulting for her work in introducing international accounting standards in the Russian banking system.

Oleg Misevra, president of the Siberian Coal Energy Company, also received the Grand Prix for his work in the development of the domestic coal industry.

The awards, bestowed with several others at a gala ceremony in the Patriarchal Chamber of the Kremlin March 26, are an attempt to draw public attention to those who have contributed to Russia's economic and financial development. Winners were chosen by a panel of public figures, government officials, Russian company executives and media representatives. Grand Prix winners also received the "Glory of Russia" decoration.

Also receiving awards for public and political service were Alexander Voloshin, head of the presidential administration, and Andrey Illarionov, adviser to President Vladimir Putin. A Regional Leader award went to Krasnodar region Governor Alexander Tkachyov, for the successful realization of the region's economic potential.

Deputy Education Minister Victor Bolotov received the Person in Education award, for his work to modernize the educational system. Vyacheslav Fetisov, chairman of the Russian Sport Committee, and Yuri Zavarzin, General Director of the Dynamo soccer team, shared the Person in Sport award.

Yuri Bashmet, head of the Moscow Soloists orchestra, was named Person in Culture, and Vladimir Pozner, president of the Russian Television Academy and presenter of the Vremena program, received the Person in Mass Media award.

Commendations in business went to Victor Makushin, president of MAIR Production Group; Boris Kuzyk, general director of New Programs and Concepts holding company; David Yakobashvili, chairman of Wimm-Bill-Dann; Stephen Jennings, chief executive officer of Renaissance Capital; Oleg Levchenko, general director of Tambov Distillery TALVIS; and Lev Khasis, chairman of Perekryostok Trading House.

Industry Leader awards went to Yevgeny Kurgin, general director of ROSNO; Rostislav Ordovsky-Tanayevsky-Blanko, president of Rostik Group; Boris Bobrovnikov, general director of the CROC Company; and Oleg Khusayenov, president of the Atlant-M Holding Company. All founded high-profile companies that meet high international standards.

A new award established this year, for the top foreign manager in Russia, was given to Charles Ryan, executive chairman of United Financial Group, in recognition of his contribution to boosting Russia's image in the eyes of foreign investors.

Yevgeny Yuriev, president of Aton Capital, won the Investment Banker award. Rustam Tariko, chairman of the board of directors of the Russky Standart Holding Company, took the Creative Work and Innovations prize.

Oleg Poptsov, president of TVC channel, won the Popularization of Economic Knowledge award, and Oksana Derevyanko, head of economic programming at Novaya Kompaniya Producing Group and an economic news presenter on Channel One, took the Economic Program Presenter prize.

Vladimir Dyomin, president of Columbus IT Partner Russia, received an award for introducing competitive management technologies.

The project received informational support from Izvestia, The Russia Journal, Deloviye Lyudi, Boss, Karyer, Ogonyok, and Ekho Moskvy radio station, and was sponsored by LanCh and Aviator.
