Moscow disclaims breakthrough in Ukrainian gas talks

RBC, 31.05.2012, Moscow 16:32:12.Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said he was not aware of any eventual renegotiation of a natural gas supply contract between Russia and Ukraine, in response to a recent statement by Ukraine's Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov, who claimed that Russia had agreed to revise the contract.

Dvorkovich pointed out that Russia was permanently engaged with Ukraine on a wide range of issues, such as checking that Ukraine has enough funds to pump gas into its underground storage facilities and ensuring uninterrupted transit of Russian gas to European consumers. "I don't have any information concerning renegotiating agreements," Dvorkovich noted.

Earlier, Azarov had said that Russian authorities were amenable to consider Ukraine's proposals and arguments concerning gas deliveries and to reconsider the current contract.
