Antitrust probe looms for auto dealers
RBC, 27.02.2012, Moscow 17:14:15.The Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) is mulling launching an antitrust probe against the auto distributors and dealers of Skoda, Hyundai, Kia, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Ford, as well as distributors and dealers of spare parts for Audi, Skoda, and Volkswagen models, the regulator said in a statement. According to FAS, dealers are forcing their partners to combine car sales with post-sales warranty services. "This requirement makes it more difficult for independent service centers to enter the market, since they need to come up with major investments to build dealerships in order to obtain the status of an authorized service station and receive the right to provide warranty services. As a result, the service market faces a deficit in regions with high demand, which is having a negative impact on the quality of services and their price," FAS experts pointed out. FAS intends to consult market players in order to work out new regulations for the industry.
