Russia ranks 3rd in Europe for inflation
RBC, 26.07.2010, Moscow 18:37:20.Russia's inflation in the first six months of the year was third in Europe, lower only than that in Malta and Kazakhstan, according to the Russian Federal State Statistics Service's (Rosstat) report based on publications by Eurostat. In H1 2010, the increase in consumer prices in Russia amounted to 4.4 percent, to 4.8 percent in Malta, and 4.4 percent in Kazakhstan. The average inflation stood at 1.3 percent in the European Union in the reporting period. In June alone, consumer prices went up the most in Latvia, Estonia and Russia (0.4 percent). At the same time, the average inflation level remained virtually unchanged in the EU in June, with some countries even boasting a 0.1-0.7 percent decrease in consumer prices against May. In Russia, prices for food products edged up 0.6 percent in June compared to the previous month, while the average inflation in Europe stood at 0.1 percent. Similarly, food prices climbed 5.6 percent since the beginning of the year (compared to 1.5 percent in European countries).
