PM: Russia may act as guarantor in Georgia-S.Ossetia conflict resolution
RBC, 06.07.2010, Moscow 10:45:08.Russia may act as a guarantor in the settlement of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced on Monday while visiting the Great Patriotic War museum in Moscow, the government's press office reported. When asked by a Georgian journalist about the events of August 2008, Putin stated, "We did not start that war, and the responsibility for its consequences should be borne by those who did. They should have enough courage to reach out to the people whom they hurt. They must reach an agreement, but the terms of this agreement are solely up to the two negotiating parties." According to the PM, there are many forces in Georgia that would like to improve Russian-Georgian relations and create a foundation for the future with Ossetians. "This is the right way to move on, but they should not look for solutions on the side," he noted. Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced in Tbilisi that the U.S. would do everything possible to de-occupy Georgia's territory.
