Russia: Missile defense employment needs supervision
RBC, 18.03.2010, Moscow 17:54:02.The uncontrolled deployment of missile defense shield elements may undermine the international efforts for nuclear disarmament, official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Nesterenko told a press briefing today. According to him, "The interconnection between offensive arms, including nuclear arms, and defensive arms is an axiom. The deployment of the missile defense shield elements by any country or military and political alliance can jeopardize the international efforts aimed at actual nuclear disarmament." Nesterenko indicated that Russia proposed to take joint steps in the sphere of a collective missile defense system with equal access to its management and resources. "The first step to creating the missile defense system should be a joint analysis of missile threats. Such work is being conducted by Russia, the U.S. and NATO," the diplomat observed.
