Clinton arrives in Moscow to discuss START
RBC, 18.03.2010, Moscow 10:47:11.U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in Moscow for a two-day visit. Earlier, official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Nesterenko said that Clinton was expected to participate in the Middle East Quartet meeting and discuss the negotiations process for drafting the new offensive strategic arms treaty (START) with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to Nesterenko, Lavrov and Clinton plan to define the key areas of bilateral cooperation for the near term. Clinton and Lavrov are also expected to discuss the "coordination of Russian and U.S. military efforts for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons ahead of the upcoming global summit on nuclear security on April 12-13 in Washington D.C." Among other issues on the meeting's agenda is the Middle East peace process, the political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear program, and the strengthening of Russian-U.S. cooperation in stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan.
