Russian airlines deny allegations of Iran's request to leave
RBC, 11.03.2010, Moscow 18:44:00.According to official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Nesterenko's announcement at a press briefing today, Russian airlines have not received any official requests from Iranian authorities to leave the country within a specific timeframe. "Judging by our data, Russian air carriers are still transporting passengers in Iran and providing a high level of security and services for their clients," the diplomat stated. Earlier, a number of foreign media resources published Iranian Transportation Minister Hamed Behbahani's announcement that Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad signed a decree on the deportation of all Russian pilots working in the country in the next two months. Behbahani explained that Iran had its own professional pilots and had no need for foreign ones. Such a decision could have been prompted by an accident in January 2010, when an airplane leased from a Russian airline and piloted by a Russian team caught fire when landing in Iran's north-east.
