Russia, S. Ossetia to discuss unified military base
RBC, 09.03.2010, Moscow 13:42:19.Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree on accepting the Russian government's proposal regarding an agreement on a unified Russian military base on South Ossetia's territory. According to the Russian leader's press office, the Russian Defense and Foreign Ministries are expected to hold talks on the matter with South Ossetian authorities and then sign the corresponding agreement. As reported earlier, a similar agreement was signed between Russia and Abkhazia on February 17, 2010. The document defines the status of troops stationed at Russia's unified military base, as well as the status of their families, the procedure and terms for the use and functioning of the base, and some other aspects. The base aims to ensure the sovereignty of Abkhazia and counter international terrorism.
