Timoshenko to insist on 3rd round of elections
RBC, 09.02.2010, Kiev 10:45:30.After a meeting of Yulia Timoshenko's Bloc, deputy Sergei Mishchenko announced that the bloc was ready to "do everything possible to ensure a third round of the presidential elections." "The gap between the candidates is smaller than the number of falsifications in Ukraine's regions," he pointed out. Another deputy, Oleg Lyashko, stated that about 1.5m ballots could be considered falsified, while Viktor Yanukovich secured about 800,000 more votes than Yulia Timoshenko. With 99.58 percent of the ballots tallied, chairman of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovich is in the lead with 48.83 percent of votes, and Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko is close behind with 45.59 percent. Some 4.37 percent of Ukrainians did not support either candidate. Voter turnout, according to the Central Election Commission's data as of 9 p.m. on Monday, amounted to 69.07 percent.
