Russia, U.S. schedule talks on strategic arms treaty
RBC, 05.02.2010, Moscow 15:30:13.Negotiations between Russia and the U.S. on the new offensive strategic arms treaty (START) are due to continue next week in Geneva, the Russian Foreign Ministry's press and media department told RBC today. "Next week, the Russian and American delegations, headed by the Foreign Ministry's head of security and disarmament department Anatoly Antonov and Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller, will continue work on the new treaty. This will be the ninth round of talks," the ministry stated. As reported earlier, head of the Federation Council's foreign affairs committee Mikhail Margelov announced on Thursday that the new treaty could be signed by mid-April 2010. He also expressed hope that the signing ceremony would take place during the summit on nuclear security scheduled for April 12-13, 2010 in Washington D.C.
