Russian companies report consolidated loss in January
RBC, 25.03.2009, Moscow 15:26:25.For the first time since 1998, Russian companies suffered a consolidated loss in January 2009, the Federal State Statistics Service reported. Russian corporations (without small businesses, banks, insurance companies, public sector organizations and agricultural companies) ended January with a negative consolidated financial result (profits less losses) of RUB 184.4 billion ($5.2 billion). In January 2009, 32,900 companies received profits worth RUB 517.4 billion (approx. $15.4bn), while 20,900 corporations reported losses totaling RUB 701.8 billion (approx. $20.8bn). The percentage of unprofitable businesses rose 4.6 percent in January 2009 compared to January 2008, to 38.9 percent. In January 2008, Russian corporations had a positive consolidated result of RUB 437.7 billion, or $17.9 billion.
