Kazakh PM urges to tighten belts
RBC, 24.03.2009, Astana 16:28:26.The Kazakhstan government has approved draft amendments to the republic's budget for 2009-2011, Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov said during a cabinet meeting today. All countries are currently revising their budget parameters and their possibilities downwards, Masimov noted. "This is done to allow us to live within our means," he said, adding, however, that all social spending would remain unchanged. "If this global crisis continues, we will have to tighten our belts further," the PM stated. After the amendments have been made, the country's budget revenue is expected to drop by $2.45bn to $18.75bn. The amendments also provide for budget expenses of $22.5bn (down $140m), and a budget deficit of $3.79bn, or 3.4 percent of GDP.
