Putin discusses gas problem with Federal Customs Service
RBC, 07.01.2009, Moscow 13:20:21.Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Andrei Belyaminov at a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reported that an official letter had been sent to Gazprom, warning it of the illegality of gas supplies to Ukraine from the position of law. Putin replied that no Russian gas was supplied to Ukraine then, adding that there is no way the gas that is being pumped to western partners via Ukraine "can be taken for contraband." Belyaminov rehiterated that "in terms of law, the supplied gas is rather contraband." "And being a state organization, we cannot tolerate this situation," the official added.
