Gov't to pursue national projects despite crisis
RBC, 11.12.2008, Moscow 12:48:34.The funding of national projects will continue despite the difficulties posed by the global financial crisis, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov told a conference on the national education project. He noted that both President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin viewed national projects as a priority. He also stated that businesses must play a more active role in supporting education projects. In Russia, 80 percent of scientific research is financed by the government, Zhukov said, with businesses contributing a mere 20 percent of that funding. In the West, however, the situation is the exact opposite. He added that in light of the critical developments in the global economy, Russia could not afford to make poor decisions, and that good education was vital for the nation to set and achieve ambitious goals.
