Russia, EU likely to continue accord talks in early 2009
RBC, 03.12.2008, Moscow 09:25:48.A third round of talks on a new framework agreement between Russia and the European Union could take place in late January - early February 2009, the Mayak radio station reported, citing Russia's permanent envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov. He indicated that no specific date had been set, but that he anticipated talks to resume no sooner than the end of January. According to Chizov, who heads the Russian delegation at the negotiations, before the new round of talks starts, official delegations will hold expert groups meetings. Following a five-month respite, Russia and the EU resumed talks on the future PCA-2 (Partnership and Cooperation Agreement). A decision to restart talks was made at a Russia-Eur summit in Nice on November 14, 2008. The new accord is to replace the current one, which expired at the end of 2007, and was prolonged automatically.
