Gazprom inks long-term gas agreements with Slovakia
RBC, 21.11.2008, Moscow 18:26:11.Gazprom Export, Gazprom's fully-owned subsidiary, and Slovakia's Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP) have signed an agreement covering the basic terms of natural gas supplies to Slovakia during the next 20 years. As a result, the current contract between the parties, which expires this year, was extended until 2028. According to the document, Gazprom is to provide Slovakia with 130bn cubic meters of gas during the entire 20-year period starting in 2009. In another development, SPP's 100-percent subsidiary Eustream has signed a transit agreement with Gazprom that would also be valid for 20 years. The accord, concluded after more than two years of talks, provides for the transit of 1 trillion cubic meters of gas through Slovakia. Gazprom Export's chief Alexander Medvedev pointed out that the transit agreement would increase the European Union's energy security and guarantee stable deliveries of Russian gas to Europe.
