Medvedev to attend CIS and EurAsEC summits
RBC, 10.10.2008, Bishkek 09:22:29.Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, currently in Kyrgyzstan on an official visit, will participate in the meetings of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Heads-of-State Council and the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) Intergovernmental Council. The Russian delegation includes Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Transportation Minister Igor Levitin, Economy Minister Elvira Nabiullina, and Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, among others. Joint statements are expected to be signed following the summits, whose agendas include over 20 different items relating largely to economic interaction. CIS leaders will discuss, among other things, the commonwealth's economic development strategy until 2020, and energy cooperation as the key area of interaction between CIS member states in 2009. The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry's press office has announced that the Heads-of-State Council meeting will not be attended by the presidents of three countries: Georgia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. Ukraine will be represented by the head of the country's Security Council and Azerbaijan by its Prime Minister, while no representatives will attend from Georgia.
