Russia perplexed with NATO activity in Black Sea
RBC, 26.08.2008, Moscow 14:07:34.Russian Armed Forces General Staff is perplexed with the recent intense activity of NATO's navy in the Black Sea waters, deputy chief of the General Staff Anatoly Nogovitsyn told journalists today. He reiterated that there were nine NATO warships in the Black Sea off the coast of Georgia on Monday, adding that the General Staff had learned at 11:30 p.m. yesterday that another US frigate had already passed the Bosporus. Furthermore, Nogovitsyn pointed out that he had information about eight more NATO warships expected arrival in the region. He also said that these warships were supposedly preparing for planned maneuvers, adding that it was hard to believe that the latter eight warships were carrying humanitarian aid. Therefore, Nogovitsyn stressed that, while Russia was following its obligations, Georgia was restoring its armed forces and enjoyed global support in doing so.
