Russia slams Georgia's draft UN resolution on Abkhaz conflict
RBC, 16.05.2008, Moscow 13:54:51.The Russian Foreign Ministry regards Georgia's draft resolution on refugees and displaced people on the territory of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict submitted to the UN General Assembly as a counterproductive move and fraught with complications to the settlement process. The draft resolution, the ministry said in a statement, virtually separates the refugee issue from the set of tasks to achieve peace in the region, which will hamper peaceful settlement. The ministry noted that Russia had had no doubt that the Georgian side was going to use humanitarian issues as a guise to get the politically motivated resolution through the UN, imposing a distorted view of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict and considering just a few of all possible consequences. With just 14 members in favor of the resolution, the international community has not upheld Georgia's maneuvers, the ministry added.
