Sistema eyeing Germany's flagship chipmaker
RBC, 16.05.2008, Moscow 10:29:31.Sistema Financial Corporation has shown interest in Germany's chip and semiconductor producer Infineon, Sistema's President and CEO Alexander Goncharuk said today, adding that Infineon was a very attractive asset, particularly in terms of research and development. However, Sistema is in no hurry to acquire Infineon, largely due to political reasons, as the company is considered to be Germany's chip industry flagship, the RBC Daily newspaper reported today. In addition, it is unreasonable to buy Infineon at the moment, because of high production costs in Western Europe and competitive pressure from Asia. Therefore, Sistema is currently more interested in the acquisition of small European companies working in the high-tech sector.
