Sberbank posts quarterly net profit
RBC, 15.05.2008, Moscow 17:39:31.Sberbank's net profit under RAS rose 39.4 percent in the first quarter of 2008 compared to the same period a year earlier and amounted to nearly RUB 36.128bn (approx. USD 1.51bn) as of April 1, the bank said in a financial statement today. Pretax profit jumped 43.6 percent to roughly RUB 47.441bn (approx. USD 1.99bn), operating expenses went up 32.6 percent to around RUB 48.281bn (approx. USD 2.02bn). Equity increased 20.8 percent to some RUB 727.544bn (approx. USD 30.5bn), and the bank's loan portfolio climbed 53.6 percent to nearly RUB 4.456 trillion (approx. USD 187bn). Specifically, loans to legal entities surged 66.6 percent to nearly RUB 3.33 trillion (approx. USD 140bn), excluding interbank lending.
