Russian stocks climb at opening
RBC, 15.05.2008, Moscow 11:59:30.At the opening of today's session on the Russian stock market, most shares increased 0.5 percent on average. However, the rise was followed by profit taking in a number of securities, which can be attributed to their record rise on Wednesday. At the moment, MICEX's top gainers are Gazprom Neft (up 5 percent), Surgutneftegas (up 4 percent), and Transneft preferred shares (up 3 percent). The RTS index reached 2,418 points after half an hour of trade. Although some securities are seriously overbought, the Russian market looks fairly strong, and the oil sector is especially robust, experts told RBC TV today. Meanwhile, it is too early to say that the market's downbeat trend has reversed until the trade volume goes up, analysts believe. Experts note that the news background has been fairly positive, although some investors may decide to take profit, as foreign trading floors are lagging behind the Russian market.
