Russia to take part in talks on Iran nuclear problem
RBC, 14.05.2008, Moscow 14:30:58.Six international intermediaries, including Russia, the US, the UK, Germany, France, and China, are ready to consider Iran's participation in talks on the settlement of conflicts in the Middle East, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists today following a meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier. He noted that a positive decision on the matter would be somewhat of a guarantee for Iran regarding the existing nuclear problem. Following talks held on May 2, the six countries proposed to Iran to halt nuclear enrichment, at least temporarily. In response, Iran's Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki urged the European countries among the six not to deny Tehran's right for the peaceful use of nuclear energy. He added that Iran had its own suggestions regarding the nuclear problem and that it had already informed Russia on the matter.
