Russia reports faster GDP growth
RBC, 28.03.2008, Moscow 11:40:45.According to the Economy Ministry's estimates, Russia's GDP growth stood at 7.8 percent in January-February 2008 compared to the same period a year earlier, the ministry's monitoring report on the economic situation in the country states. Meanwhile, GDP rose 8.2 percent in February 2008 against the same month of 2007. The faster GDP growth in February can be traced to a rapid rise in consumer and investment demand on the back of a sharp increase in the amount of manufactured products. The industrial production index, calculated for the mining and processing industries, as well as electricity, gas, and water production and distribution, amounted to 1.2 percent in February and 3.5 percent in the first two months of 2008.
