Moscow voter turnout expected at 60%
RBC, 02.03.2008, Moscow 15:21:53.The Moscow City Election Commission is anticipating a voter turnout of around 60 percent at the 2008 presidential election, the commission's Chairman Vladimir Gorbunov said during a meeting with foreign observers today. He noted that voter turnout in federal cities, such as St. Petersburg and Moscow, was usually somewhat lower than the nationwide average. According to Gorbunov, turnout figures are currently slightly higher than during the previous presidential vote in 2004. Central Election Commission data shows a similar trend in many Russian regions, as well. A total of 3,282 polling stations are operating in Moscow today, including 129 in hospitals and other medical institutions, 10 in temporary detention facilities, and 7 at railway stations.
