Russia sets gold medal goal for Beijing Olympics
RBC, 18.01.2008, Moscow 12:12:34.Russia is hoping to win more gold medals in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing than in previous summer games, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov told the first meeting of the organizing committee for the upcoming summer Olympics. He noted that, based on previous results, Russia could hope to win about 30 gold medals, adding that serious training could result in a higher number of gold medals. Zhukov also urged members of national sports federations to concentrate on the solving of existing problems and on naming those that the government could help solve. He reiterated that winners of gold, silver, and bronze medals would receive, respectively, $50,000, $20,000, and $10,000 in prize money from the government.
