Russia and Austria to cooperate in gas supplies
RBC, 24.05.2007, Moscow 10:22:19.Russia and Austria have reached a mutual agreement on direct gas supplies to several states in the republic. Russian President Vladimir Putin made this statement commenting on the results of a Austrian-Russian business forum in Vienna. He pointed out that Austria was a vital transit country for Russia, as one third of its gas supplies to Europe were transferred through its territory. The Russian leader also said that the two countries had signed EUR3bn worth of contracts during the forum in Vienna. "Foreign investments in Russia have increased substantially, and Austria's investments in Russia's economy climbed 40 percent," Putin said. Putin added that some 50 Russian regions had business contacts with Austria, and trade between countries amounted to $5.19bn in 2006.
