Russia's stance on Kosovo based on UN resolutions, Putin says
RBC, 23.05.2007, Moscow 19:39:01.Russia's stance on Kosovo is based on the fundamental principles of the international law, first of all on the territorial integrity principle, Russia's President Vladimir Putin told a press conference in Vienna. Russia is also guided by the UN Security Council's resolution no. 1244 which says that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia, the President said. He added that these principles could be changed if needed, but the changes could not be imposed on either of the conflicting parties. Such principles, Putin stressed, are universal and should work in every spot on earth. In turn, Austria's President Heinz Fischer referred to Kosovo as a problematic area, and warned that decisions with regard to it should be carefully weighed.
