Moldova and Russia fail to agree on gas price for 2007
RBC, 28.11.2006, Kishinev 18:20:07.Moldova and Russia have not yet reached a compromise on the gas price for the republic for 2007, Moldova's First Deputy Prime Minister Zinaida Greciani told journalists in Chisinau today. She said that concrete results were expected to be reached by the year-end. According to Greciani, the main reason for postponing the signing of the contract for next year is the gas price set by the Russian gas holding. She pointed out that the contract would have been signed if Moldova had accepted the European price. However, it is insisting on a price which is more realistic and adapted to the republic's needs. The main Moldovan argument for a lower price is the lack of natural gas resources in the country, and the fact that Moldovagaz is a joint Russian-Moldovan company, in which Gazprom owns a controlling stake. Moldova is currently buying Gazprom gas at $160 per thousand cubic meters.
