Broadband internet gains strength
RBC, 26.10.2006, Moscow 09:24:04.Moscow's broadband internet access market will increase 45 percent to $195m in 2006, J'son & Partners' analytical report data states. Broadband subscriber numbers grew 63 percent to 800,000 people in the first half of 2006 compared to H1 2005, and is expected to exceed 1 million by the end of the year, analysts say. At the same time, they note a slowing in this segment's growth in Moscow from last year's 120 percent. Moscow is by far the leader in terms of broadband penetration, with 20 percent and rising as of mid-2006, against an average 3.5 percent in Russia at large. The most popular technology on the market is Ethernet with 57 percent of all broadband subscribers (through local home providers and Corbina, Qwerty, and Akado).
