Gas price not to change for Ukraine in 2006

RBC, 05.09.2006, Moscow 19:02:37.The gas price for Ukraine will not change till the end of 2006, Yury Boiko, the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister, said today. "Our Prime Minister and the Russian authorities agreed on $95 per 1,000 cubic meters in Sochi. Both parties will fulfill the agreement and a number of attached subcontracts," he said.

The 2007 price is to be agreed on when work on the current agreements has been completed. Agreements between Gazprom and Turkmenistan will also be considered when setting the gas price. "We think that signing this contract will also secure the stability of the pricing policy for Ukraine," Boiko noted.

Ukraine knew about the position of Turkmenistan and understood what the prospective prices were, he added. The minister said that he did not see any grounds for the rapid increase in prices. An increase that exceeds the inflation rate in Ukraine can be considered rapid, he concluded.
