Russia may supply gas to Singapore
RBC, 15.08.2006, Moscow 15:55:00.Singapore authorities have not ruled out the possibility that Russia will become responsible for gas supplies to their country and to other Asian states as well, Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang said at a press conference, having signed a cooperation pact on special economic zones with Russia, represented by German Gref, the economy minister. He noted that Asia's demand for energy was growing, and said he hoped that Singapore would serve as a good base for Russian oil and gas companies to reach Asian markets. In turn, German Gref said that Russia regarded Singapore as a strategic partner. In its cooperation with Singapore, Russia will seek the maximum possible security for its investors entering Asian markets. Lim Hng Kiang added that Singapore had launched the construction of a liquefied gas terminal to be completed by 2012. The terminal will help the country diversify gas supplies. As for gas projects of mutual interest, Gref mentioned two liquefied gas plants underway in Sakhalin and on the Shtokman gas field, both within reach by transport from Singapore.
