Russia and Mongolia to discuss trade and economic cooperation
RBC, 10.07.2006, Moscow 11:29:35.Russian companies are interested in privatizing electrical energy assets, banks and insurance institutions in Mongolia, including the Savings Bank of Mongolia, according to a source in the Russian delegation accompanying Russian PM Mikhail Fradkov during his visit to Mongolia on July 10-12. During the visit, the parties will also discuss the status of bilateral trade and economic ties between Russia and Mongolia, particularly the operation of the joint metallurgical enterprises Erdenet and Mongolrostsvetmet, attracting investment for modernization, and enhancing the capacity of the Ulan Bator Railway. Also, the parties will discuss a number of promising joint projects, for example engaging Severstal in the development of the Tavan Tolgoi coal deposit, rail deliveries of Russian oil to Mongolia and construction of the oil refinery in Mongolia, as well as development of Mongolian copper, gold and uranium deposits. The three-sided Chinese, Mongolian and Russian project for construction of a Transmongolian highway is also on the meeting's agenda. In addition, the parties are to discuss renewal of the military and technical cooperation that was terminated in the 1990s. In turn, Mongolia is expected to raise the issue of supplying its products to the Russian market, particularly livestock products. The plan for Russian-Mongolian trade and economic cooperation up to 2010 is to be completed before the visit of Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar this year.
