OSCE to inspect military enterprises in Transnistria
RBC, 28.09.2005, Chisinau 11:09:12.The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is to monitor military enterprises in Transnistria, the OSCE mission to Moldova reported. This agreement has been reached as a result of consultations on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict involving mediators from Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE and politicians from Chisinau and Tiraspol, which took place in Odessa on September 26-27, 2005. The participants approved the OSCE mission to Moldova efforts to organize monitoring of the military enterprises; the OSCE plans to prepare a draft protocol for this monitoring. The negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict settlement, interrupted a year ago, will resume on October 27-28, 2005 in Chisinau and Tiraspol within the 5+2 format. Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE will take part in the talks, with the US and the European Union having been granted observer status. Earlier, Moldovan authorities constantly accused Transnistria of weapons production and its illegal trafficking. They also claimed that Russian soldiers in Chechnya were being shot with the weapons made by the Transnistrian military enterprises. The Transnistrian authorities denied all Chisinau accusations, calling them absurd and expressing their willingness to allow the international community inspect and monitor military enterprises in the region.
