Putin to attend 1,000th anniversary celebrations in Kazan
RBC, 26.08.2005, Moscow 09:43:26.Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, today. The city is celebrating its 1,000th anniversary. In the morning, Putin will chair a meeting of Russia's State Council. On agenda are issues of internal and foreign policies and measures to ensure unity of state power and develop federalism. A meeting of the CIS leaders will take place in Kazan later in the day. There are about 20 items on the agenda. "The most important issue is reforming CIS bodies," Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters. In the evening, Putin will take part in a formal gathering to mark Kazan's 1,000th anniversary. On Saturday morning, a summit of the Common Economic Area, uniting Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will be held in Kazan.
