RBC, 22.07.2005, Tbilisi 14:56:16.Spokesmen for Georgia and Russia, the USA, France, Germany and Great Britain, cooperating with the UN Secretary General on Georgian issues, have met today to discuss the issue of ensuring the security in the area of Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. Personal spokesman for Georgia's president for peaceful settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict Irakly Alasaniya was quoted as saying that the draft joint statement on ensuring the security in the conflict area had been submitted to the UN mission to Tbilisi to be further transferred to the Abkhaz part. This document envisages the parties' promise not to resume hostilities and secure refugees' safe return to Abkhazia. Abkhazia refused to participate in the negotiations reasoning there was not adequate background for the country to do this.
