Belarus ready to have Russia's currency
RBC, 15.03.2005, Moscow 19:23:43.Belarusian Prime Minister Sergey Sidorsky considers it possible to impose the Russian ruble as the single currency for the Russia-Belarus Union starting January 1, 2006, as he announced opening a meeting of the Russian-Belarusian Council of Ministers. As Sidorsky stressed addressing the ministers, the two parties are ready to work on the issue efficiently and the Council of Ministers will consider the implementation of a plan for cooperation between the Russian government, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the Belarusian government and Belarus' National bank on imposing the single currency. Sidorsky also stressed that before the meeting he had met Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and the two parties had discussed a decrease in bilateral trade in January 2005. Sidorsky expressed his hopes that the situation would improve by the end of this year.
