EU to fund Russia's fighting money laundering
RBC, 05.10.2004, Moscow 12:24:21.The European Union has allocated EUR2.5m for the Moli-ru project, which stipulates fighting money laundering in Russia, Marc Franco, the head of the EC delegation to Russia announced. He also stressed the necessity to work on a number of problems within the framework of this project. According to him, after the recent tragic events in Russia, fighting money laundering is a vital problem as criminal money is used to fund terrorists' activities. As Director for Legal Cooperation of the European Council Roberto Lamponi announced, the European Council will intensify its efforts aimed at fighting money laundering. Therefore, the European convention on fighting terrorism is being constantly improved and the assessment of measures of fighting money laundering is being worked on. Lamponi considers it necessary to establish interstate technical cooperation in fighting terrorism.
