Analysts foresee sell-off of YUKOS' assets
RBC, 24.09.2004, Moscow 15:25:39.Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement on the YUKOS case confirms the possibility of the forthcoming sell-off of its assets, analysts say. After Putin said that the government did not want to nationalize the oil company, experts announced that they foresaw negative impact of Putin's claims about YUKOS securities, as earlier he had announced that the government was not interested in forcing YUKOS into bankruptcy. Experts did not rule out the possibility of Gazprom-Rosneft joint venture's buying YUKOS assets. This will happen only if the government benefits from the deal, they stress. However, a seizure of control over Yuganskneftegaz and other oil producing subsidiaries will not result in enhancing their efficiency. The government may benefit more from changing its approach to raw materials producers than from consolidating YUKOS' assets and seizing the control over them.
