Foreign Ministry hopes war in South Ossetia will be avoided
RBC, 08.07.2004, Moscow 17:10:48.Georgian-Ossetian tensions are not dissipating and the existing situation could develop into a military conflict, the press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry states in its release. Moscow calls for avoiding actions not consistent with the rule of law and causing further aggravation. Therefore, Russia proposes to hold a meeting between co-chairmen of the joint control commission overseeing South Ossetia in the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali. Commanders of the joint peacekeeping forces should also take part in the meeting. The Russian Foreign Ministry hopes, the meeting will be held on July 9. Russian peacekeeping forces do their best to maintain control over the situation, the ministry stressed.
