Georgia's breakaway republic wants to join Russia
RBC, 10.06.2004, Moscow 16:52:38.Eduard Kokoyty, the President of South Ossetia, has arrived in Moscow to submit an official appeal to the Russian President and the Federal Assembly asking for the accession of this republic to Russia. The leader of Georgia's breakaway republic made a corresponding statement to journalists in the lower house of Russian parliament. According to Kokoyty, South Ossetia has political, legal and historic grounds to join Russia and this does not contradict the international law. According to the South Ossetian leader, Georgia promotes escalation in the region and is not able to implement agreements reached at a recent meeting of a tripartite commission.
