Chechen presidential elections to be held before September 5, 2004
RBC, 11.05.2004, Moscow 14:00:18.The Elections Committee of Chechnya must make a decision on the elections of the president of the republic not later than in 14 days after early termination of powers of Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov, i.e. by May 23, 2004, Alexander Veshnyakov, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia, declared today. According to him, the Chechen parliament is to make a decision on presidential elections but it has not been formed yet. Not more than 120 days must pass after termination of powers of the president of the republic, but not fewer than 80 days after the date of the elections has been announced, Veshnyakov noticed. Early elections of the Chechen president must be held before September 5, 2004, he stressed. As reported earlier, Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov died in an explosion at a stadium in the Chechen capital.
