Georgia and Azerbaidzhan to suffer damages after closing Batumi
RBC, 16.03.2004, Moscow 18:37:10.Georgia and Azerbaidzhan will suffer huge damages after closing the port of Batumi, Oleg Vostruknov, the CEO of Alegratrans (owner of 50 percent in Batumi Oil Terminal), believes. According to him, this decision will be harmful for the state budgets of Georgia and Azerbaidzhan, for the railroads of the two countries and for the Caspian Steamship Company, which transports oil from Central Asia to Baku. The exact amount of the cost related to the closing of this port, can not be determined as yet, Vostruknov stressed. Alegratrans CEO declined to comment on the decision to close the port, made by Georgian Presidant Mikhail Saakashvili. He only emphasized that rivals might benefit from the situation as oil companies might consider the Georgian region as an unstable partner.
