Ten Percent Increase Of Total Number Of Man-caused Emergencies Is Forecasted For Russia In November


On the grounds of monitoring and forecasting information of the Emergency Ministry it is forecasted that the total number of man-caused emergencies in Russia will increase by 10% in November. The Regions of Russia, where the risk of man-caused emergencies is higher than average, are the following: the Republic of Sakha, Primorsky Kray and Khabarovsky Kray, Amur, Irkutsk, Kamchatka, Magadan, Omsk, Sakhalin, Moscow, Tver, Kaluga, Kostroma, Novgorod, Smolensk, Pskov, Tumen and Chita Regions. The main kinds of emergencies in Regions of Russia in November will be fires in residential and industrial buildings as well as accidents at utility and energy systems. Forest fires are not expected in Russia in this period due to the current weather conditions. Additionally, seismic activity has been reported in Eastern Siberia, in the Kamchatka Region and on the Kuril Islands. The probability of a strong 8 to 9 point earthquake in Dagestan is low. Yet, the probability of 5 to 6 point earthquakes remains significant. Such earthquakes may cause a local seismic effect of up to 7 points. Strong floods caused by rainfalls are expected in rivers in the North Caucasus (the basins of Terek and Kuban Rivers). Mudflows in mountainous Districts in the South of Stavropol Kray as well as in Dagestan, Karachayevo-Cherkesia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia and Chechnya are expected due to heavy rainfalls.
