Since the beginning of the anti-terrorism operation in Chechnya the casualties of Russian Armed Forces are reported as 222 killed and 584 more wounded, head of the Medical Department of the Defense Ministry Ivan Chizh said at today's press conference. According to him, two thirds of those wounded have already returned to the ranks. Chizh said that such casualties may be considered minimal in comparison with the Chechen War in 1994-1996. According to the information of the defense Ministry, the insurgents' casualties are estimated at 1,500 people.
