Duma Considers Amendments To Income Tax


Today the State Duma passed amendments to the law 'On Income Tax from Individuals' on the second reading, which provides for a new scale of income tax calculation. A 12% tax is imposed on the income of 50,000 rubles and lower, 20% on the income from 50,000 to 150,000 rubles and 30% above 150,000 rubles. The lower limit of taxable income was increased from 30,000 to 50,000 rubles. The distribution of income tax revenues between the federal and regional budgets will be set forth in the budget for 2000. The welfare received by victims of acts of terrorism and international, foreign and Russian prizes awarded to individuals for outstanding achievements in science, education, culture and literature will be exempt from the tax. The government will determine a list of such prizes. Lawmakers will consider amendments in the third reading on November 5th.
